INGREDIENT PROFILE
INCI
Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract
What it Is
An extract
What it does
promotes skin barrier function
Targets
inhibits hyaluronidase and elastase, enzymes responsible for the breakdown of HA and elastin matrix
Find it in
Calm control CC1-01Overview
Notably rich in ascorbic acid (vitamin C), a key component for maintaining skin elasticity and hydration. Ascorbic acid in cucumber extract plays a vital role in inhibiting hyaluronidase and elastase, enzymes that break down hyaluronic acid (HA) and the elastin matrix in the skin.
Skin benefits
Soothes skin irritation Improves skin hydration and elasticity
What research has shown
The anti-hyaluronidase and anti-elastase activity of lyophilized juice of C. sativus increases the skin's water holding capacity. The fruit pulp has natural α-hydroxyacid compounds like lactic acid which reduces the thickness of the stratum corneum by reducing corneocyte cohesion and combats dry skin, icthyosis, follicular hyperkeratosis, seborrheic keratosis, actinic and keratosis. Cucurbitacin D and 23, 24-dihydrocucurbitacin D, are found in cucumber extracts and these are responsible for the inhibition of tyrosinase and melanin synthesis.
