Ready to revamp your skincare routine, but worried the transition will cause a flare-up? Our team of skin experts has you covered. Here are our top 5 tips for a smooth transition to your new regimen.

5 Tips to Smoothly Transition Your Skin Care Routine

  1. Perform a Patch Test: Before incorporating new skincare products into your routine, try testing them out on a small section of your skin–the elbow or behind your ear works great. See how your skin reacts to the formula. If your skin becomes itchy, red, or flaky after 24 hours, this could be a sign you are allergic or at risk for further irritation.  Note from our chemist: Patch testing is commonly used in dermatology for the investigation of substances and chemicals that cause allergic contact dermatitis. We can apply this concept to our at-home skincare routines!

  2. Consistency is Key: Once a skincare topical has passed the patch test, it’s time to try incorporating it into your daily skincare routine. But it’s important to note: no skincare product can offer full results overnight. Topicals can have the potential to work immediately, but to see complete results use the product consistently for at least 90 days.  At Revea, we’re proud to offer a 90-day trial period so you can experience the remarkable results of our precision formulations, risk-free. The 90-day timeframe is linked to clinical data we hold on how long it takes to notice skin improvements.

  3. Take It Slow: Although it may be tempting to buy an entirely new skincare regimen and try it all at once, it's important to gradually introduce new topicals into your routine. Flooding the skin with too many new products–or ingredients that aren’t compatible with each other (i.e. ascorbic acid and retinol) may result in irritation or breakouts.

  4. Choose New Products Wisely: Before purchasing new topicals, do your research. Look into the brand’s claims, taking their sustainability measures into account as well.  At Revea, we’re proponents of using skincare that’s made for your skin’s specific needs. Our 100% custom formulations are based on your skin scan which measures over 100 million data points, revealing your skin’s unique biological needs. Each precision regimen includes a Revea AM Serum, PM Serum, and Moisturizer making it an easy-to-follow transition.

  5. Protect Your Skin from the Sun: Incorporating new skincare products into your routine is worthless without SPF. Sunscreen not only protects your skin but also ensures the topicals you invested in are doing their job. For instance, using a PM serum with anti-aging properties only works if you protect your skin from the sun–one of the main culprits of premature skin aging.  Note from our formulation chemist: About 95% of the UV rays that get to earth are UVA rays that can reach deep into the dermal layers of the skin. The remaining 5% are energetic and highly damaging UVB rays that can affect the superficial layers of our skin. Sunscreen is a must for daily protection!

Skin Purging

You may have heard the term “purging” where the skin appears worse before it gets better. This can happen if you’re introducing new actives into your routine. The skin may go through an initial process of clearing out potential clogs to increase cellular renewal, but breakouts should be brief. If your skin continues to break out for weeks, discontinue product usage. It’s likely the topical is interacting negatively with other actives in your routine, or your skin isn’t a fan.

Note from our formulation chemist: Patience is key! We recommend at least 4 weeks to start seeing results.
